Ed Potter,
President of the Employment Policy Foundation of Washington,
DC said on October 23, 2001, “The nation’s
great challenge will be finding enough highly skilled
workers to meet future demand…the future labor
force will be short about 35 million workers…those
positions that will not require a college degree will
require high levels of experience and training.
According to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics, by 2010, there will be an
estimated 158 million people in the workforce to fill
an estimated 168 million jobs in the economy. The projected
gap is the result of new job creation and increasing
levels of employee retirement. Employers faced with
a dwindling workforce will need to reach out to populations
that have been traditionally underutilized, including
welfare recipients, the unemployed, individuals with
disabilities, older workers, immigrants, and people
without previous work experience. |
