Every
successful Jobs for Life site will include the following
4 key leadership support functions in its leadership team:
Site Leader: Develops, encourages,
and motivates a leadership team and a Jobs
for Life training culture that
promotes and builds relationships and a community among
course participants that inspires, guides and equips the
unemployed and underemployed to find and keep meaningful
jobs.
Class Leader:
Recruits JfL curriculum Instructor(s) and Small Group Discussion
Leaders; coordinates and directs all class logistics to
ensure effective class flow from beginning to end of the
Jobs for Life
course.
Champion Team Leader:
Recruits, trains, directs and encourages a team of Champions
(mentors); reviews student progress reports and coordinates
post graduation Champion /Graduate support.
Business Relations Leader:
Recruits local business partners
who agree to communicate job openings with Jobs for Life
site and who are willing to interview and hire qualified
Jobs for Life graduates; assists with inviting local business
and community representatives to participate in job related
class presentations (i.e. Employer Roundtables, mock interviews,
community resources, etc.).
In addition, there are three additional suggested roles that can enhance the JfL class experience. These include:
Student Relations Leader: Recruits and screens the unemployed and underemployed who desire to improve their work situation. Reviews student progress; leads class orientation, organizes class graduation and post-graduation follow-up activities.
Administration Leader: Administrates all course records; coordinates and oversees information tracking of students and course volunteers. Reserves and coordinates classroom space, facility setup and optional class support such as student transportation, food service and childcare.
Prayer Team Leader:
Coordinates a prayer team committed to pray generally and
specifically for all components and people involved with
JfL
training. Collects and distributes all specific prayer requests
and needs from course members on a timely bases.
The above functions should be filled
by committed leaders who are willing and able to carry out the reponsibilities of each role. The number of people making up a Site
Leadership Team is determined by each Jobs for Life site.
Depending on the need and size of the class, a
Site Leadership Team may be made up of one individual for
each leadership function, or one person may fill up to two of
the leadership functions. Detailed job descriptions, information
and suggested guidelines for each Leadership function are
included in the Jobs for Life Toolkit.
Students:
Unemployed and underemployed individuals from your church,
neighborhood or the broader community who have a desire
to go to work.
Site Leadership:
The Jobs for Life Site Leadership Team, which fills the
7 identified key leadership functions.
Champions:
A group of volunteers who commit to building relationships
with JfL
students that provide friendship, support, guidance, encouragement
and a sense of community for the duration of the class and
post Jobs for Life training.
Jobs for Life Instructors:
Individuals willing and qualified to teach the course curriculum
content. Jobs for Life recommends 1 to 4 Instructors per
JfL Training Course.
Discussion Leaders: JfL
volunteers who commit to attend and participate in JfL training
classes as a small group facilitator and who serve as “in-class”
encouragers to their group of students.
Volunteers:
Individuals recruited by the site leadership team to perform
other support functions for the class including but not
limited to providing refreshments for the class, praying,
offering child care, providing transportation, participating
in an employer roundtable, etc.
Businesses:
Business and community resources that provide the opportunity
for job placement of qualified Jobs for Life graduates and
assists with real-time job information/requirements in their
industry.
Facility:
Easy to access space set-up to accommodate all class participants
at tables for full class training and small group breakout,
and provide separate rooms for childcare, if offered.
Funding:
A one-time cost to receive a Jobs for Life Toolkit (includes
everything a site needs to run a class for 10 students)
and funding for additional class materials ordered on an
as needed basis from JfL headquarters. Additional costs
for a class might include facility fees, food/refreshments
and costs for JfL graduation ceremony including invitations,
programs, certificates, food, decorations, etc. Much of
what is needed for a class is easily provided by volunteers
or donated items.
