Jobs for Life goes to South Africa
February 25, 2008
Last fall, Suzanne and Rick Flamer (JfL board member) journeyed to Welkom, South Africa for five weeks to teach a pilot JfL youth program and the 16 lesson Jobs for Life curriculum to Junior and Senior High School students at the Dunamis Christian School.
Dunamis educates almost 200 students from the local townships and squatter camps. Of these students 60% are AIDS effected or orphaned children.
Doreen Chloete, Principal, said that Jobs for Life gave her students real hope that they could secure and maintain a job after graduation, even in an area with almost 40% unemployment.
With Jobs For Life as a foundation and support from local Rotarians, some students were already starting their own small companies in anticipation of life after graduation.
“JfL is now a formal part of our school curriculum” said Doreen. “It is surely part of God’s plan for our school.”
